When I was little I used to play next to my grandmother’s floor loom while she was weaving rugs or blankets. She was always weaving or spinning something. As a kid I fed and brushed her angora rabbits. These were rabbits whose fur she would become an expert in spinning. For as long as I can remember, fiber arts have been in the background of my life.
In the fall of 2017, my mother asked me to attend the Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference. I decided to go so I could spend time with my mom. I chose to take Dawn Edward’s fascinator one-day course and her two-day hat course. I had never wet felted before. I loved it and haven’t stopped. I have watched endless amounts of YouTube videos and have read about wet felting techniques. I have continued making hats and added on small purses and scarves.
In my wet felting den hangs a butterfly wing my grandmother wove. It hangs there as an inspiration to my exploration of felting techniques. Most recently completed Fiona Duthie’s Surface Design eight-week online course. Giving me an in-depth exploration of felting techniques.
