This is the final post to season one blog! It has been an emotional journey writing this season.
What was special about this bag was that my mom and I had a girl’s weekend with a blending board and every time I see a piece; I think of the fun we had making the mix together.
For this square I used the surface design technique of nuno cotton quilt felting along with adorning gems (resist technique) in the background.
I would have given anything for my grandmother to have seen the color effect happening in this square.
Wings Flapping is by far the most complicated piece I have done to date.
My first square – Pink Silk Butterflies – was a high stakes piece. I only had one shot at making this square because I would not find another piece of china silk in time and Grandma would have truly loved this technique.
I’m going to walk you through how I conceived the idea behind my award-winning piece Grandma’s Butterflies.
Today’s post is going to weave together my grandmother and mother’s connection to my first show with a few special memories of my grandmother included.
